Labia majora reduction Book a consultation Information and rates The outer labia (also known as the labia majora or large labia) are the hair-covered skin folds that protect the vaginal opening and the inner labia (also known as the labia minora or small labia). The shape of the labia majora varies for every woman. The outer labia may become enlarged due to excess skin and/or tissue, which can also result from weight loss. This excess can be visibly bothersome in tight pants, sportswear, or swimwear. After childbirth and with aging, the skin of the labia majora can become looser, more wrinkled, and darker. A labia majora reduction can address these concerns. Why consider a labia majora reduction? If you feel that the size, shape, or symmetry of your labia are not in proportion to your body, this may be bothersome. Long labia can cause physical discomfort, for example, during walking, exercising, cycling, or sexual activity. Additionally, they may affect your sense of freedom, such as when wearing a bikini, tight clothing, or during intimacy. A labia reduction can often resolve these issues. What types of labiaplasty are possible? The most common procedure is the reduction (or shortening) of the inner labia (labia minora), often referred to as labiaplasty. A reduction of the outer labia (labia majora) is also possible. Additionally, there are several other and complementary treatments, such as clitoral hood reduction or the correction of scars, for example, from childbirth. Another procedure is a perineal correction. Consultation for labia surgery During a free consultation, your concerns and expectations will be discussed. Our consultant and doctor will take the time to guide you through the process. The possible procedure will be explained step by step. Is the excess skin on the inner labia? Or the outer labia? Is there excess skin on the clitoral hood? How will these areas relate to each other after the procedure? During the consultation, you will also have the opportunity to view before-and-after photos to get an idea of what to expect. How much does a labia majora reduction cost? Consultation Free Labia majora reduction € 3020 These prices are all-inclusive: consultation, stitch removal, follow-up check, and, if necessary, additional aftercare. A complete overview of the prices for all our treatments can be found on our price list.Procedure How does the procedure work? A treatment always begins with a free, no-obligation consultation. Below, we describe the next steps of a labia majora reduction. Upon arrival, you check in at the reception. The doctor may have prescribed medication in advance, which you have already picked up from the pharmacy and brought to the clinic. If prescribed, you will take the medication at the clinic and receive a numbing cream with instructions. The numbing cream helps to reduce the sensation of the anesthetic injections. Feel free to relax with a cup of coffee or tea, as the cream takes about 45 minutes to take effect. This is why we ask you to arrive earlier. Next, the assistant will escort you from the waiting area to the treatment room. There, you can remove your lower clothing. The medical team will be ready for you. You will be asked to stand in front of the chair while the doctor takes the before-photo. Any remaining questions will be answered, and the procedure will be briefly discussed. You will then take a seat in the chair, and the procedure will begin. You will be covered with a sterile drape, and a few small injections will be given to locally numb the area. After the procedure, you will move to another room where you will lie down for about 30 minutes for observation. If everything is fine, you can then go home. Before and after Labia majora reduction – source: Dr. Joke Haartsen Recovery and aftercare Recovery after labia majora reduction Following post-operative care instructions carefully is crucial for a smooth and speedy recovery. This includes avoiding intense physical activities for several weeks after the procedure. Aftercare labia majora reduction Driving We strongly advise against driving yourself after the procedure. Depending on your recovery, you may be able to drive again within a few days to a week. Aspirine, Ibuprofen and Paracetamol In the first few days, you may take two Paracetamol (500 mg) tablets every 4-6 hours. As the pain decreases, you can reduce this to one Paracetamol (500 mg) tablet every 4-6 hours. If needed, you may also take Ibuprofen (400 mg) alongside Paracetamol. Any additional medication or pain relief should be taken only as prescribed by your doctor. Cooling It is advisable to cool the area for 10-15 minutes every hour during the first few days using an ice pack, which we provide you with. Always place a clean cloth or gauze between the ice pack and your skin. Towel We recommend sitting on a tightly rolled-up towel as much as possible for the first three days after the procedure. This acts as a compression bandage to help minimize swelling. Resting It is very important to take one full week of rest after the procedure. Make sure someone is available to assist you if needed. Showering You can shower with the stitches. We recommend rinsing the wound gently twice a day using the showerhead. Ensure the water is not too hot to prevent excessive bleeding. Avoid hot baths for 4-6 weeks, as they can increase swelling. Exercise and physical activity We strongly advise against exercising or engaging in any strenuous physical activity for the first 4-6 weeks after the procedure. Sexual intercourse We recommend avoiding sexual intercourse for at least six weeks after the procedure. Engaging in sex too soon can cause excessive friction and increase the risk of infection. Urination Rinse the area briefly with water after urinating to maintain hygiene. Work Heavy physical work should be avoided for at least the first four weeks after the procedure. Menstruation We advise against using tampons for the first six weeks after the procedure. Instead, use sanitary pads and rinse gently with the showerhead twice a day. You can also opt for menstrual underwear, which absorbs menstrual blood and light urinary leakage, eliminating the need for tampons or pads. Moodies Undies offers a wide range of menstrual underwear. Follow-up appointments Two weeks after the procedure, you will have your first follow-up appointment at the clinic, during which the stitches will be removed. After 5-6 months, you will return for your final check-up with your treating doctor, where it will be determined if any further correction is necessary. Labiaplasty results Do not expect immediate results after a labiaplasty. In the first few weeks, the treated area may feel tight or swollen, which is completely normal. After a few weeks, the swelling and bruising will subside, and you will start to see visible results. However, the final result will only be fully visible after several months, when the labia naturally integrate with your body. Curious about your options? Schedule a free, no-obligation consultation.
